Welcome to Department of Zoology
Department of Zoology, Govt. Arts & Science College was established in the year 1967. B.Sc. Zoology course was started in 1967. From the current year FYUGP implemented.
At present the department offers the following courses; 3-year CUCBCSS B.Sc. Zoology, 4-year B.Sc. Zoology Honors and also Zoology Minor and MDC. Our department staff includes four faculty members (permanent) , and two Lab Assistants. Two faculty members are our Alumni also.
As admissions strictly follows govt reservation rules and regulations, our student profile represents economically and socially backward communities. Nearly 80% students are girls. Our students achieved success in various competitive examinations like JRF-NET, GATE, JAM etc. In addition, they are actively involved in extra curricular activities also. One student was awarded Chief Ministers Scholarship, one selected for research at TFRI, Hyderabad. Department has a pass percentage of above 85% and above 45 % of student progression.
Faculty expertise as well as meritorious students add to our academic excellence. ICT enabled classrooms, well equipped laboratory and zoology museum provide excellent infrastructure to our department. Students got top positions in University examinations. (V rank in 2021, I rank & IV rank in 2022, VIII rank in 2023 & VII rank in 2024)
Our department regularly conducts social outreach programmes like QUEST 2019- 3 day exhibitions, Beach cleaning Campaign, Museum opens to school students. Department also organizes seminars workshops & invited talks.
