The Govt. Arts & Science College, Kozhikode was established in 1964. Prof. Karimpuzha Ramakrishnan, the well known writer and scholar was the first Principal of the college. The college is affiliated to the University of Calicut. This is a prime institute to impart quality education in Malabar region of Kerala.

The College now offers 12 undergraduate courses and 7 post graduate courses. The Department of Hindi is a Research Centre.

At present there are 78 faculty members and 33 Technical and administrative staff. Around 1500 students are enrolled.

The college maintains an atmosphere conducive to the development of curricular as well as co-curricular activates. Separate NCC wings for boys and girls, three NSS units, Active Nature Club, Productive Career Guidance and Placement Centre, Grievance Redressal Forum, Strong Parent-Teacher Association, Active Alumni Association, Kazcha Film Club, Cricket Club etc. add colour to the campus.

The College has a General Library and each Department has their own Libraries. The total volume comes around 70,000.

The College has a Computer Lab and Internet Kiosk to provide computational and surfing facilities to the the students and teachers.

The Herbarium Garden and Botanical Garden are added attractions.

Ladies’ Haven provides basic amenities for girls students. A canteen with food at a subsidized rate caters the needs of the students and staff members.

The Post Office and Co-operative Store functioning inside the campus are highly helpful to the students as well as the public.
